The evening in four facts
From valet to fire
A luau where dinner leads. Six moments from the resort driveway to the fire dancers, set out as a guide to the shape of the night.
The running order, like the start time, is set on the day; GetYourGuide shows the starting times when you check dates.
Drive up to the resort at 3550 Wailea Alanui Drive. Valet parking is complimentary, and a traditional lei greeting opens the evening.
Cultural activities come before the show. Guests mention a temporary-tattoo stamp station and a photographer; a commemorative photo is part of the ticket.
The three-course dinner begins, plated by executive chef Isaac Bancaco and meant to be shared ʻohana style. The open bar makes cocktails handcrafted to your taste.
Your host tells of the first Polynesians on Maui and how the ahupuaʻa was settled, then gives a sense of Hawaiian values, through interactive storytelling, hula and live music.
The heart of the meal arrives at the table. Classic seating is the second row and beyond; premium is the front row, with the best views of the lawn.
Hula dancers and fire dancers perform on the grass beside Mokapu Beach, with the ocean behind them.

The lawn and the land
Wailea sits on Maui's sunny southern leeward coast. It began as a fishing settlement, turned to cattle ranching, and became a planned resort community in 1971. Its name is usually translated as the water of Lea, the Hawaiian goddess of canoe-builders. Mokapu is one of its public beaches, alongside Polo, Wailea, Ulua and Keawakapu.
The old Hawaiian land division, the ahupuaʻa, ran from the mountain to the sea so that one community could draw on taro fields, sweet potato, breadfruit, coconut and the fishing grounds. The name joins ahu, a heap of stones, with puaʻa, pig, after the boundary cairns where offerings were left. The evening's host tells how the ahupuaʻa was settled; the dinner is billed as farm-to-table, which makes a fitting companion.
Tradition says Maui took its name from a son of the navigator Hawaiiʻloa, himself named for the demigod Māui, and Polynesians from Tahiti are named as the island's first inhabitants. The evening's host picks up that story on the lawn, with storytelling, hula and live music.
It is a seated dinner first: a three-course meal shared ʻohana style and plated by an executive chef, with cocktails mixed to your taste. Guests describe being served at the table rather than queuing, with ocean views as the sun sets over West Maui. Front-row seats are the premium upgrade.
At the table
A sit-down dinner, not a buffet line: three courses, shared the way a Hawaiian ʻohana eats, from a kitchen led by an executive chef.

The meal is described as family-style: dishes placed to share, in three courses, beautifully plated rather than ladled.
Executive chef Isaac Bancaco plates the dinner: farm-to-table, served ʻohana style.

Complimentary valet parking, a traditional lei greeting and a commemorative photo are all part of the ticket.
The venue publishes a standard, a vegetarian and a children's menu. Guests describe the kitchen feeding a toddler and offering simple dishes to young children.
